The next modification was the TurboXs SatageII UNICHIP upgrade. I was first thinking of going with Cobb tuning so it could be tuned with the car, but Cobb tuning was swamped and could not schedule the installation.

The installation of the Unichip and ABC was very straightforward and very easy. Right after the installation I was completely pumped up as the car felt much faster and held boost longer, etc. However, it was not long before I began to experience some problems. First, the car’s ECU appears to “learn” the changes made by the Unichip. Very soon, the car runs crappy. It appears that the ECU will sense the extra boost or whatever map changes the UNICHIP does, and it pulls timing like crazy so you end up without much power increase. Another problem was the hesitation or misfiring that the engine began to do. This was very annoying and proved impossible to correct. I spoke later with one of the guys from TurboXs at the NOPI show in Atlanta and he basically told me that the UNICHIPs were not any good and could not be made to work as advertised!! Too bad he did not offer me any kind of refund….

Anyway, The UNICHIP appears to be problematic and I removed it from the car as the misfiring and hesitation were intolerable, the power gains were nil and the car began to throw CELs. Back to stock I went and the problems went away…….
